Principal's Message

Dear Students and Parents,  

Welcome back to school! I hope each of you had a summer filled with great experiences and positive memories. During the summer, Federal Way High School staff have attended many workshops and professional development opportunities to constantly improve our curriculum and instruction.   

Programs and courses: Some of the programs that are available at Federal Way High School are: Construction Pre-Apprenticeship Program, Pro-Start Culinary Program, Coding / Game Design and computer science courses, Cambridge advanced courses, and Air Force JROTC. In addition, we are an AVID National School of Distinction, AVID National Demonstration School, and a Cambridge International School Demonstration Center.  

Student achievements: As the start of the 2026-27 school year begins, I would like parents and students to be aware of and proud of the accomplishments completed last year and to challenge this year’s students to achieve even more. Some of these accomplishments were: 

  • Nine valedictorians with a perfect cumulative 4.0 GPA completing the most challenging courses offered; 

  • Multiple athletic scholarships in Softball, Football, Boys Basketball, and Cheer; 

  • Girls Wrestling had an outstanding season, finishing 5th at the 3A State Tournament and producing five individual state placers, including a state runner-up and multiple top-six finishers; 

  • Boys Swimming earned recognition at the State Meet with a 6th place finish in the 100 Backstroke; 

  • Girls Cross Country set a new school record in the 5K and secured 3rd place at the State Cross Country Meet; 

  • Track & Field had an exceptional showing at the WIAA State Championships with a state runner-up in the Boys 4x400m Relay, 3rd place finishes in the 110m Hurdles and Long Jump, 5th place in the Boys 4x100m Relay, and numerous top-ten finishes across sprints, distance, hurdles, jumps, and throws events; 

  • Football qualified for the State Tournament and finished tied for 9th place in the State; 

  • A Boys Golf player secured a top 20% finish at the State Golf Tournament; 

  • Cheer placed 3rd in the Stomp Division at the State Tournament; 

  • Drama Department's Thespian Troupe earned a Gold Honor Troupe award at the Washington State Thespian Festival with a perfect 100% presentation score. The troupe also received an Excellent Award for Mainstage Drama for their outstanding Fall production of The Diary of Anne Frank. Additionally, seven scholars earned Superior Awards at the Washington State Thespian Regional Competition. Twenty-six scholars earned Excellent Awards as State Honorees at the same regional competition. The cast of The Sound of Music received the IMPACT Award at the Centerstage Spotlight Awards; 

  • Symphony earned a “Superior” rating at the Valley Region Music Contest; 

  • Air Force JROTC, 52nd Eagle Squadron, has completed 2,947 hours of community service, earned a Distinguished Unit with Merit award with an exceptional perfect score of 100%, and both of our AF JROTC Aerospace Science Instructors were recognized as Outstanding Instructors of the Year for Region 1; 

  • 50 students earned the dual language Seal of Biliteracy award; 

  • All of the AVID senior class was accepted to a university, college, or secondary institution; 

  • Federal Way High School is also an AVID National Demonstration School and an AVID National Site of Distinction; 

  • Federal Way High School is also a Cambridge International School Demonstration Center; and 

  • The Class of 2026 received over $3.1 million dollars in total grants and scholarships
